It is common knowledge that people can become more easily dehydrated sometimes when they are ill. Stomach ailments especially seem to deplete the bodies water supply than other illnesses, although colds and flu can cause dehydration too. The reason for this is because when people are sick, they sometimes feel too ill to take in food or fluids. If there is fever present, this raises the temperature of the body and increases the use of fluid the body has stored. With each sickness you will usually sweat out the impurities that have entered your body, which is good on one hand, but at the same time you are losing this much needed water as well.

To help avoid becoming dehydrated, it is essential that you take in enough fluids and plain water is usually the best choice. This is even more important for babies, children, the elderly, and those that already have other illnesses like aids, cancer, and diabetes because there bodies might become weaker faster than a normally healthy adult. Others things that can cause dehydration is exercising. If you do replenish the water that your body uses as you exercise, you can dehydrate your body very quickly. This can often happen when children play outside when it is hot and do not drink enough water. Most children are always on the go and when they come inside, their little cheeks can be blazing red. Elderly adults are more susceptible to heat stroke when they are out doors and do not drink enough fluids. Our bodies are made up of mostly water so this is why it is so important for you to replace it as it is used up. You need to drink about 32 ounces of water a day and if you do anything to make you sweat then drink extra. You all know that sometimes it is not possible to do in some places like on your job where you might not be allowed to have any water or drinks in the area. Some of these businesses might not allow any thing like this unless the temperature in above a certain degree outside making it uncomfortable for you to work in. Working in metal buildings the temperature can become almost unbearable and you can become dehydrated very quickly. If you get to this point you could end up faint. Construction workers who work in the heat must be careful and drink enough fluids too when working outdoors or in buildings that are not air conditioned. In extreme cases dehydration can even cause death. Many people each year end up being hospitalized because of it.
